My poem for Uncle Alf

Created by jenandbencrawley 11 years ago
When I knew my uncle was not going to recover, it hit me really hard and I realised that even though I hoped he instinctively knew, I had never really told him how much I loved him and what he meant to me. Not great with the spoken word, I wrote him this poem hoping it would summarise my emotions at that time and he would understand how I felt. I hope he did. Lighthouse On the corner of the coast, Looking out to sea, A tall, magnificent lighthouse stands, That's what you are to me. In my tiny boat, I've sailed all over the place, Reaching new lands far and wide, All kinds of dreams I've chased. And whether seas are choppy, Treacherous or calm, My lighthouse always shines it's light, To safely welcome me home. In my years, the scenery's changed, Things have come and gone, But lighthouse stands and still remains, Dependable and strong. My lighthouse will always be there, It's presence such a part of my life, To watch over me and guide me, Through happiness and strife. This light that shines so brightly, In my heart will never fade, I love you my dear lighthouse, For everything you gave.
